Over time, exposure to the sun has an affect on our skin. We develop wrinkles and age spots, but there’s also a more serious concern – skin cancer. Protect your skin to help prevent skin cancer by following these tips.
Cover Up. Cover your skin with clothing, like long-sleeved shirts, pants and hats to protect your face. Wear sunglasses that protect against UV rays to shield your eyes and the delicate skin around them.
Slather On Sunscreen. Wear at least SPF 15 every day. Don’t forget that you can burn and get sun damage on cloudy days.
Be careful around water, snow and sand. They reflect and intensify sunlight, which increases your chance of sunburn.
Say no to tanning beds. Tanning beds have the same damaging rays as the sun, and using them even occasionally almost triples your chances of developing melanoma, the most dangerous type of skin cancer.
Chill out in the shade. Enjoy the outdoors but avoid direct sun exposure by cooling off in the shade. While exposure to the sun can be damaging any time of the day, its rays are strongest between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
